Francis was born on March 11th, 1852.  Francis' father was William Carr and his mother was Sarah McCarthy.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mc Carthy and Catherine Desmond. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Richard, Joseph, James, William, Mary, Ellen and Mary (2).  He was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
