Johns Father was named Timothy Murphy. John Murphy (b 1833) was born in Whitegate Aghada. He was in the Royal Navy during the Crimean war and later in the Coastguard. He died when he was living in Harbour View Cobh and is buried in Whitegate. John had a brother James. James married Frances Morrison in Aghada on 18/9/1870.
